Playful girls rode a backhoe's bucket as an alternative to a Ferris wheel in a mountain village in the Philippines.

The youngsters were walking by the river when they saw workers on their excavator in Davao province on June 25.

They asked the worker, who was also their neighbour if they could sit on the equipment like a carnival ride, and he agreed.

Footage shows the teenagers holding onto the steel bucket, screaming and giggling while enjoying their makeshift ground fair ride.

Their friend Maery Saballero said: ‘We were miles away from town, so we had to make do with what we could find for entertainment. It was a fun day at the river.'

The excavator then dips the bucket underwater to make it more extreme. The children took turns riding the bucket and thanked the worker before going home.

Mary added: ‘We use the backhoe to cross the river when it is flooded. We then discovered that it can become a Ferris wheel with the right speed.'
