A brave warthog fought off a dozen wild dogs by charging at the surrounding predators.

Peter Geraerdts, 53, was leading a tour through South Luangwa National Park, Zambia, when he came across the wild pig caught in a sticky situation.

Dramatic footage shows the pack of wild dogs snapping at the male’s tail before the fearless hog snapped around quickly and lunged at his aggressors.

Despite the massive numbers disadvantage, the warthog ran straight at the dogs causing them to retreat before managing to escape into the nearby bush.

Peter said: “Warthogs are strong and compact with sharp teeth. They are the 'Mike Tyson of the bush’. Warthogs can injure a dog severely.

“The dogs had killed an impala just before this happened. They can kill hogs but they are a risky target.

“The fight carried on for about four minutes. There were at least 12 wild dogs on the spot. This was a male warthog who are usually living a solitary life.

“The warthog ran off into the bush and the dogs went for a siesta.

“This was fun and great to watch. My photographic client had the morning of his life.

“I have been working for my Lodge in South Luangwa for over 10 years, specializing in photographic workshops and safaris.”
