Safari guests watch as warthog 'backflips' to escape being hunted by lioness
This is the astonishing moment a warthog ‘backflips’ to escape being hunted by a lioness.
Morapedi Samati ws leading a tour through the Okavango Delta, Botswana, on June 2 when he spotted a big cat stalking some prey.
Incredible footage shows the lioness run towards the warthog and lunge at it with her paws trying to wrestle it to the ground.
The would-be-meal managed to flip in midair and once it had landed on the ground sprinted away to safety from the frustrated predator.
Morapedi said: “This was the most epic wildlife sighting of my life. I have been a guide for eight years but never seen an escape like this.
“The lioness was very cautious to avoid injury while attempting to catch the warthog. It performed a backflip to escape.
“I have seen warthogs escape lions many times, but not like this. This was totally different. I did not expect the it to escape after being touched by the lion's paw.”
