This is the dramatic moment police caught a huge cobra that was flushed out by floods on a road in Thailand.

The officers hooked the large venomous snake with their tools and pulled it out of a puddle in front of shocked drivers after heavy rain in Phuket on October 17.

The deluge had swept it from its home onto a busy street in the city.

Footage shows the specialists wrangling the deadly animal as onlookers shrieked in terror at its sheer size.

Rescuer Netpirun Suksri said: 'The black cobra is around three metres long. It will be taken to the wildlife conservation centre before being returned to its natural habitat.'

The Phuket Information Centre warned residents and tourists to be vigilant when walking through floodwaters.

Heavy rain has battered the region this week causing widespread floods.

Meteorologists have blamed climate change for the sustained heavy rain, which has been hitting the Thai capital and provinces around the country causing severe floods for several weeks.

Thailand's Center for Climate Change and Disaster claimed the coming months could see heavier, longer rainfalls, due to 'climate change'.

Local media reported that the country has seen 'an unusually sustained and persistent rainy season' this year.

The heavy rain has been compounded by the deluge from Typhoon Noru, which dumped water in the country's northeast region, causing rivers flowing into the central region to swell.
