Rare albino porcupine with red eyes leaves Canadian motorists in shock
A rare albino porcupine who walked just a few feet away from a brother and sister has racked up thousands of views online.
Emerice Hallock was driving back home through Alberta, Canada, on October 2 when her brother spotted a white animal off the side of the road and the pair pulled over.
Adorable footage – which has been viewed more than 635,000 times online – showed the spiky creature with red eyes casually strolling past the 27-year-old.
Only one in 10,000 porcupines are albino and their sightings are even more uncommon as the animals are nocturnal, meaning they are least active during the day.
Emerice said: “We were on our way back from the next town to us when my brother spotted an albino porcupine.
“I didn't believe him but turned the car around to check it out anyways and this little guy was standing up on his back legs with his arms in the air.
“We were both in shock, so I parked my car off the highway to try and get a closer look. We split up and all of a sudden the porcupine ran towards me.
“It did get a little too close to me and it chased me at one point. I managed to get some distance by hiding behind the trees and was able to take the short clip of him walking by.
“We were both absolutely fascinated by getting to see such a rare creature this close.”
