A villager guided his buffalo through flooded streets as Typhoon Nalgae battered the Philippines.

Footage shows the resident wading through the brownish water while dragging the animal to safety.

Resident Nhe Diaz said: "The water rose so fast, we didn't have time to secure our belongings but we're still thankful we are safe".

Tropical storm Nalgae, locally named Paeng, is expected to strengthen into a typhoon by Saturday (October 29) as it rips through the Bicol region where it will make its first landfall.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that a total of 4,975 individuals were evacuated as severe flooding reached roof height in some areas.

The footage was filmed on October 27 in Capiz province.
