Stray dog trapped under 33ft-deep sinkhole rescued in Thailand
A stray dog trapped under a 33ft-deep sinkhole was rescued in Thailand.
The black pooch wandered from its home on a banana farm after heavy rain when it slipped down into a deep cavern in Kanchanaburi province.
The dog was crying for help until a passing local discovered it was under the ground and called the rescuers for help on October 26.
Footage shows the volunteers climbing down the hole on a rope to save the animal.
The rescuer worker Kwanchai Thirasulp said: ‘The dog entered the property where there was banana, lemon, and tamarind growing.
‘But because the soil was wet, it slipped down the hole and could not climb up. Fortunately, someone heard the dog and called us before it rained again and flooded.'
The rescuers set up a pulley tied to an old tamarind tree so they could safely descend the hole before climbing down.
It took the rescuers almost two hours because the hole had uneven rock formations and the soil was wet and muddy.
Kwanchai added: ‘There was also light rain during the operation. We need to be careful to save the dog.'
Upon reaching the dog at the bottom, they secured him on a rope which was then pulled up by their colleagues.
The creature was unhurt and given to the villagers for adoption.
