A huge fire broke out in a commercial building in Al-Waziriya area in Baghdad, Iraq, on Sunday afternoon (November 6). The fire and black smoke continued to rise until the early evening hours, amid vigorous efforts to put it out.

The Iraqi News Agency reported that the Director of Civil Defense and a number of firefighters were injured in the collapse of the commercial building in Al-Waziriyah, and the number of injured reached more than 20 after completing parts of the building.

There were conflicting reports about the presence of more than 14 people detained inside the building. Iraqi media said that the rescue operations succeeded in recovering a person alive and another charred body.

A number of families gathered in front of the building, waiting to know the fate of their children, while the Iraqi Interior Minister directed all efforts to contain the fire.

The commercial building contains a perfume store with large quantities of flammable materials.
