Hungry shark attempts to rip tuna right out of fisherman's hand after biting its whole tail off
A hungry shark tried to rip a tuna out of a kayak fisherman’s hand after biting its whole tail off.
Connor Walsh was fishing off Kauai, Hawaii, USA, on August 13 when he caught a 20kg (45lb) fish and starting to reel it in.
Dramatic footage shows Connor dragging the body of the tuna towards his kayak when a Galapagos shark breaches the water next to him and snaps its jaws to grab the fish.
Having successfully pulled the tuna onboard, Connor showed the tuna was missing a chunk out of its flank as well as its whole tail.
Connor said: “I felt the fish go from fighting to getting thrashed around then ultimately giving up.
“I hooked into the tuna that got attacked mid-way back to the boat. The sharks then followed the rest of it up to the boat and attempted to take it out of my hand.
“These three aggressive sharks then attacked my bait tube and circled the kayak for a few more minutes.
“I think there were a few Galapagos Sharks that ganged up on the tuna. The fish was roughly 45 pounds but when I got it back it was 37 pounds.
“I was probably about six minutes into the fight when the shark attacked. I just knew that I had lost a very nice fish to the greedy sharks.
“I was more frustrated that the shark took my fish than afraid of them.”
