This is the amusing moment Thai locals raced to eat cucumbers tied to their feet during a sports event.

Footage shows the men sitting in red plastic chairs as they fought to take a bite of the green vegetable tied to a string in Chaiyaphum province on October 11.

In the game, the string could only be lowered as they lifted their foot and the first to finish the food would win.

The bizarre race was part of the local sporting event in Ban Bamnet Suwan prepared by officials to entertain the residents.

Local Singthong Keawdaeng said: ‘Everyone was having fun. It was the first time we watched the game. Even those who lost went home with smiles on their faces.'

Everyone was cheering for the players at the football field, including neighbours and family members who attended to watch.

Another unusual game at the event that became the highlight was smashing balloons tied around the waist.
