A toddler’s hand was blown black after placing coins into an electric car charging port in southern China.

In the video filmed in Bengbu, East China's Anhui province, the two-year-old boy threw coins into a charging port of the electric vehicle.

As he touched the plug of the charging port, it suddenly exploded and spewed out sparks, causing him to cry and his hands instantly got black.

Ms. Li, the boy’s mother, said one of the three plugs in the charging port was blown off, and the corner of a coin was burned off as well. She was busy doing housework inside the house when she heard the baby crying and immediately came out to check. Fortunately, the kid was fine.

The explosion happened because the coins could conduct electricity. When the coins touch multiple plugs of the charging ports at the same time, it will cause a short circuit. The charging ports then emit sparks and generate high temperatures.

The boy in the video was lucky that the heat did not fully reach his hands, which would have been severely scalded.

The video was filmed on December 19 and provided by local media.
