Whipsiderry Beach is the last undeveloped beach in the seaside resort of Newquay. Since the demolition of the Paradise hotel the spectacular clifftop plot has generated strong feelings with locals. Numerous plans have been rejected until the most recent proposal for several cliff top houses on the site. In order to make the site safe a course of action to drill the actual cliff face and insert steel rods as well as fill caverns with concrete has begun. Grass root local activists have been galvanised into action to defend the unstable cliffs from engineering works. Although expert opinion from nature organisations a geological survey and local political and council groupings have all opposed the works a Government body known as the Maritime Management Organisation has given the green light for work to commence. many hundreds of local residents are organising and making efforts to have the works stopped. Peacefull protestors deemed to be in the wrong place are moved by security staff employed by the developers on this council owned public beach.
