A Vietnamese farmer rides boats powered by motorcycle engines salvaged from accidents and recycled to help him spray water on his crops.

Footage shows the man riding the small vessel along the irrigation ditch in Vinh Long province, Vietnam on February 28. A makeshift sprinkler was attached to its back to drench the rice paddies with water.

A resident said: ‘Farmers take advantage of damaged motorcycles here. We reuse the engines to make a quick and cheap effecting watering machine.'

The resident added that recycling the motorcycle engines only costs around one million VND (35 GBP).

They said the vessel is connected to the engine's blower unit and water is pumped directly from the canals into the plastic pipes fixed on both sides.

He added: 'We have been doing this for many years. It saves us around 30 million VND (1,047 GBP) annually. It can water the plants and move without being pushed by a human.'
