Security guard survives electrocution after 'rolling over broken power strip while sleeping'
A security guard survived being electrocuted after rolling over a broken power strip while he was sleeping.
Winai Chimkaen, 59, was found lying shirtless on his bedroom floor in Samut Prakan, Thailand, on March 3, unable to move but still responsive after receiving an electric shock that could have ended his life.
His relative said he had come home from work at 6 AM last Friday, and went straight to sleep. However, the family member grew concerned when Winai failed to wake up at his usual time at 4:30 PM.
Winai's niece knocked on the door to wake him up, but was met with silence. Worried the guard might miss work, he barged into the room and found Winai lying atop the shattered power extension with plastic pieces still scattered on the floor. He hurriedly unplugged it from the socket and called medics for help.
A rescue team arrived after receiving the report at 5 PM. They found Winai with several electric burns. He was stretchered to a hospital for treatment.
It is believed Winai had rolled off his bed while sleeping, smashing the power strip open and being electrocuted after coming into contact with it.
He is now recovering and out of danger as he was rescued before suffering irreparable damage.
