A security officer and an alleged robber were killed during a failed heist of $32M arriving at an airport in Chile on Wednesday.

Footage shows gunfire ringing out amid an intense shoot-out near a Latam Airlines Boeing 787 plane carrying the cash at the Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport in Santiago city on March 8.

Other clips show officers gathering around the body of a suspected robber, while another video shows responders administering CPR to a fallen worker.

The fin of a Delta Airlines Airbus A350, registration N57 4DZ, that plane parked near the Latam aircraft was also riddled with bullet holes.

A worker of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation had been killed, as well as a suspected shooter.

Officials said around 10 heavily armed robbers were able to evade security measures to reach the runway at the airport where the plane was moving the cash to an armoured truck.

Deputy Interior Minister Manuel Monsalve said security officers had 'foiled a robbery by a highly organised, highly armed and probably very well-planned group'.

He added: 'The brave action by the DGAC officials frustrated the robbery by the highly organized and very armed attackers.'

The other suspects fled, with two burned vehicles being found near the scene after the gun fight.

No passengers were reported injured.
