Chinese residents attempting to extinguish fire in roadside bin cause unexpected explosions
Residents attempting to extinguish a fire in a roadside bin caused unexpected explosions in southern China.
CCTV footage filmed in the city of Shantou in Guangdong Province on March 25 shows smoke coming out of a bin and an elderly man taking cardboard out of it.
Another man then walked to the bin with a bottle of water and poured the water inside the bin to try to extinguish the fire. However, the sparks suddenly flew out.
After a while, a woman poured a bucket of water into the bin, causing it to explode.
In another clip, a man carried a bucket of liquid and poured it onto the ground when there was no fire anymore. The explosions then happened again with sparks splashed out.
According to local residents, the man at the end of the video was an employee of a chemical shop.
Police have contacted the shop's owner for questioning and the exact cause of the explosions is currently under investigation.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
