On April 10, 2023, Kamchatka, Russia experienced the strongest ashfall in 60 years due to the eruption of the Shiveluch volcano. The town of Klyuchi, located closest to the volcano, was hit the hardest. Experts say that the last time such a significant amount of ashfall was recorded in Klyuchi was in 1964. Currently, a layer of ash around 8.5 centimeters thick has already fallen and the ashfall is ongoing.

The ash cloud stretches 500 kilometers northwest of Shiveluch and continues to spread. Ashfall is currently ongoing in the towns of Klyuchi and Kozirevsk. There is a possibility of ashfall in the Milkovsky, Tigilsky, Yelizovsky, Bystrinsky regions, and Petropavlovsk.

The Shiveluch volcano has been given a "red" code for aviation danger. This means that flights in the vicinity of the volcano have been suspended for safety reasons. Ashfall can cause severe damage to airplane engines and endanger the lives of passengers and crew.
