Frenzied locals broke down the gates of a temple while queueing to buy 'lucky' amulets blessed by monks in Thailand.

Footage shows the crowd busting through the steel gates of the Wat Kositaram temple in Chai Nat province as security guards tried in vain to control the faithful streaming in on April 8.

They were waiting to rent sacred objects to commemorate the death of renowned monk Reverend Father Kuay on April 12. Local media reported that visitors had begun lining up in front of the temple as early as April 7 afternoon.

Due to the chaos, the temple had temporarily suspended the rentals.
