A strange priest in south India squatted over two sword blades before being bathed in 108 kg of chilli solution to remove the evils of devotees and their families.

The unusual scene took place on August 16th as part of the festival of Aadi Amavasai (New moon day that falls in the auspicious Tamil month Aadi) in Dharmapuri District, Tamil Nadu.

The devotees of the priest, named Govidan, claimed that the chilies used are the most spicy ones that are bought from the Guntur (Andhra Pradesh), a place known for having spiciest chilies.

A strange priest who bathed in 108 kg of chili solution to remove the evils of the devotees and their families on the occasion of Aadi Amavasai (New moon day that falls in the auspicious tamil month Aadi) in Dharmapuri District of Tamilnadu.

The ninth annual Aadi Amavasi special puja was held at Sri Periya Karuppa Sami temple in Dharmapuri district amidst hundreds of devotees. Priest Govindan who was seemed to be possessed by the holy spirit lied under the legs of horses and cows then he was seen riding on the horse and once he reached a spot near the temple he got down and stood on two machete and blessed the gathering with the sacred ash.

Then Priest Govindhan with a machete in his hands puts lemons on the 108 kilos of chili solution and adds the vibuthi (Sacred ash) with just a dhoti tied to the waist he asked the devotees to pour all the solution on him.

Earlier to which he said this ritual is for the well being of the devotees and the general public. This strange worship surprised the devotees who came to the temple. In this event, the people from the surrounding villages brought chilies for the worship and these were used to prepare that solution.

Devotees also said that these chilies are the most spicy ones that are bought from the Guntur (Andhra Pradesh) the place that is known for spiciest chilies.
