A mysterious glowing object was spotted in the sky over Dalian City, northern China's Liaoning Province on the evening of April 16 at around 7 pm.

The unidentified flying object was described as a green light moving from north to south, hovering and flashing for almost ten seconds. Numerous locals witnessed this incredible sight.

In response to this, Xie Renjiang, the director of the Dalian Shepherd Astronomy Association, stated that it was most likely a sporadic bolide.

Xie explained that a bolide is a large meteor that generates significant brightness due to its size. This makes it more easily visible to the naked eye.

Additionally, the colour of the light produced by a bolide varies depending on its chemical composition. Green is the most common colour observed in bolide.

对此，大连市牧夫天文学会理事长解仁江表示，大家看到的应该是一颗偶发火流星，比较罕见，能看到挺幸运的。地球周围存在大量的太阳系小天体，绝大部分对地球和人类生存环境不构成现实威胁。直径较大的近地小天体可通过天文望远镜巡天观测来进行识别和监测。直径较小的近地小天体（如直径小于10米的目标，数量达到亿级），进入地球大气层后肉眼可观察到。近地小天体与大气摩擦，就会发出光芒，形成火流星。火流星运动速度快、出现高度低，地球上局部约百公里区域范围内可见。
解仁江介绍，火流星是一种大型流星，因为体积大，进入大气层后摩擦产生的光亮也明显，更容易被肉眼观测；同时，根据火流星的物质构成不同，摩擦产生的光亮也会呈现出不同颜色。 绿色是火流星最常见的一种颜色，由于流星含有镁、铁、镍等元素，这些元素在高速进入大气层时被摩擦激发，发射出绿色的光，因此地面观测出绿色。
