This is the shocking moment a driver fell headfirst onto the pavement while fixing a cable snagged on a bus in Thailand.

Yupin, 39, was driving workers to a construction site in Samut Prakan province on April 26 when the bus in front of him hit a low-lying internet cable while taking a shortcut.

As the bus was clogging the road, Yupin left to untangle it from the tall vehicle.

Footage shows Yupin climbing out the bus window to have a look at the wire. However, he lost his grip and plunged around 10 feet onto the pavement. His head and right shoulder were injured.

Medics arrived to give him first aid before taking him to the Chularat 1 Suvarnabhumi Hospital.

Firefighters also arrived to remove the disconnected wires to a safer location.

The bus driver who drove into the cables allegedly told reporters that he often took the route without any issues before.

An employee of the nearby convenience store said bus drivers often passed through the narrow alley as a shortcut.

He said: 'I'm worried because a careless driver might cause damage to property or people if the cable line gets caught again. It's lucky no poles fell and no one was electrocuted this time.'

He also urged drivers to respect traffic laws and be patient to prevent similar accidents from occurring.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools, cheap loans for cars, notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws as well as endemic corruption and chronic under-investment in infrastructure hamper the efforts.
