Temperatures have almost reached 45 degrees Celcius in Uttar Pradesh as a heatwave scorches northern India.

Footage from June 9 shows locals buying blocks of ice, using taps and hoses to cool down, and protecting themselves from the sun with towels in Prayagraj.

Schools in the area have extended their summer holidays in order to protect young students from the sheer heat.

Newsflare member Pankaj Kushwaha, also the filmer of this video, said that temperatures remain at around 30 degrees Celcius even at night.

There is tremendous heat in the plains of Uttar Pradesh, the temperature is continuously running at 42 to 44 degrees, now the situation has become disturbed due to the outbreak of scorching heat, there is silence on the streets and all the people who are coming out are wearing clothes on their own. Adopting every way to protect from collision and heat, there is no hope of writing relief at the moment, where the day temperature is reaching 44 degrees, while the night temperature is running between 30 and 31 degrees.
