Footage shows a freak tornado that struck a town in the Philippines last Thursday, damaging dozens of homes and injuring one person.

The tornado left a wake of destruction when it blitzed through neighbourhoods in Bacolor, Pampanga on June 22 afternoon.

Regional police said around 26 houses, five business establishments, and a church were damaged in the freak weather. Among the affected buildings were the Cabalantian Church with shattered stained glass windows, and a fuel station along the highway.

One person was injured and taken to the Makabali Hospital for treatment, police said.

Residents said heavy rain fell soon after the whirlwind's onslaught.

In a statement, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said: 'Some homes were reported with minor damage, detached power lines, and fallen trees.'

Local authorities were clearing the strewn debris.
