Dutch pensioner, 72, covered in blood following fight with landlord in Pattaya, Thailand
A Dutch pensioner was bruised and bloodied following a fight with his landlord in Pattaya, Thailand.
Elderly tenant Alphons Huber Meijers, 72, who suffers from hemiparesis or one-sided muscle weakness, argued with his Thai landlord over a rent increase at the apartment on July 5.
They were heard shouting at each other at around 8:30 pm, drawing other Thai residents to the building. As tempers flared and voices were raised, a Thai tenant who was caught in the row reportedly punched Alphons in the face.
The blow broke the Dutch man's nose, covering his shirt and face in gruesome blood stains. Alphons used his clothes to stem the blood flow, and called the Huay Yai Police Station for help.
Police Captain Sittisak Thornsawat from the Huay Yai district police said they arrived at the scene upon receiving the report. They called for an ambulance when they saw the blood-covered ex-pat.
He said: 'We coordinated with rescuers because he had blood covering his face and shirt. An ambulance was called to take him to the hospital as there was so much blood.'
He added that Alphons was advised to file a formal complaint once he has been discharged from the hospital.
Meanwhile, the local community expressed dismay at the alleged assault as they said Alphons was an elderly man suffering from a disease.
