Out-of-control taxi ploughs onto sidewalk injuring two in China
A taxi suddenly accelerated, crashing through barriers and slamming into pedestrians in southern China.
The accident took place in the underground taxi drop-off area of the
CCTV footage filmed at Chongqing North Railway Station on July 10, shows a taxi abruptly swerving from the central lane into the innermost lane and ploughing through two spherical barriers separating the roadway from the pedestrian walkway, striking pedestrians from the left rear.
The car finally came to a halt after crashing into a wall.
In the tense moments following the crash, the taxi driver and a passenger in the front seat are seen exiting the vehicle to assess the situation.
In response to the incident, the Public Security Bureau of Liangjiang New District, Chongqing, stated that the accident occurred due to improper operation by the taxi driver, surnamed Wang, causing the vehicle to lose control and rush onto the pedestrian walkway.
As a result, two pedestrians were injured.
The injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at a hospital and are reportedly not in life-threatening conditions.
The driver, Wang, has been detained by the police, and further investigation into the incident is underway.
