STORYLINE:
 
The Dong'an Lake Sports Park Aquatics Center now stands ready for the upcoming Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games to hold swimming events.
 
It is a large Class A aquatics center and covers a floor area of over 73,500 square meters, which contains a competition pool and a warm-up pool, both with 10 lanes and a water depth of two meters.
 
Unlike a regular swimming venue, it has seats on both sides of the pool. It can accommodate 3,000 people in fixed seats and up to 5,000 people if extra ones are added.
 
The venue also boasts state-of-the-art technology in precise temperature control and scoring system.

"It features an intelligent water treatment system. We could remotely monitor the water quality and temperature on large screens, as well as through mobile devices.
The center uses a fresh air circulation system instead of air conditioning. The water temperature is kept between 26 to 28 degrees Celsius to ensure athletes can perform at their best. Meanwhile, the indoor temperature is maintained between 28 to 30 degrees Celsius.
The venue uses one of the world's most precise timing and scoring systems, capable of achieving a precision of up to one ten-thousandth of a second. If there are any problems with the touchpads during the competitions, the footage captured by the camera poles can be used to determine the athletes' results."
 
According to Bai, the venue has been open to the public since May last year and it will also be used for training young swimmers after the Games.
 
The aquatics center will serve as a competition, warm-up, and training venue for swimming events during the Chengdu 2021 Summer Universiade. The swimming events will be held from 1 to 7 August, and a total of 42 gold medals will be up for grabs.
