Coldplay's Chris Martin recognises superfan at perfect moment during live song
Chris Martin recognised a Coldplay superfan at the perfect moment during a live song.
Graham Thomson flew to Gothenburg to watch the band on July 11 and while stood one row back from the barriers when they started to play ‘Higher Power’.
Amazing footage shows the lead singer break away from his dance routine to point directly at the 53-year-old, who had been at the group’s gigs in Manchester at the beginning of June.
Having pointed at Graham – who has seen the band live 17 times – Chris then throws up two fingers before turning away laughing.
Graham said: “It’s still so very surreal being recognised by him. I can’t stop watching that video, and laughing at it.
“I have no idea how Chris can recognise people, especially with the amount of faces that he must see on a nightly basis.
“I do firmly believe that he genuinely cares about the fans though, and that simple little things like this has such a positive impact on fans like me.
“He pointed straight at me and then made a sign as if to say ‘that’s twice you’ve been here’. It was like there’s a look of disbelief on his face that I’m actually there again.
“Everyone around me was talking about it, and saying ‘he totally recognised you there'.
“A few weeks prior to this concert we saw Coldplay in Manchester and I took a sign along that Chris read and acknowledged.”
Graham has had previous interactions with Chris before, including him taking his Scottish flag off him at a concert in Paris in 2017.
Graham said: “This was the 17th time that I’ve seen Coldplay perform live. I travel all around the world to see them when I can.
“So far I’ve seen them in Manchester, Glasgow, London, Dublin, Germany, Paris, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, San Diego and Gothenburg.
“I travelled over from Scotland for the day, just to see the show. I left my house in Scotland at 1am in the morning, and flew from Edinburgh to Amsterdam, then from Amsterdam to Gothenburg.
“I got to the stadium just over 12 hours later and joined the queue at about 1.30pm, seven hours before the show started.
“I’d say I’m quite a big Coldplay fan, and whenever they announce new tour dates, the first thing I do is to check my work roster to see if I’m off and if I can go.
“If I can, it doesn’t really matter where it is in the world, if it’s possible for me to be there, then I’ll do whatever I have to do to be there.”
