STORYLINE:

The World Dairy Industry Conference concluded on Monday in Hohhot, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

The three-day conference attracted representatives of international organizations and companies, government officials, and industry experts to discuss the future development of the dairy industry.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): PIERCRISTIANO BRAZZALE, President of International Dairy Federation
"At IDF, we provide all the guidelines, all the methodologies to calculate our impact, so to help realign the numbers in mind on what we need to work to reduce our environmental impact. I want us all to remember that sustainability is a broad concept. We don't need to focus only on carbon emissions or greenhouse gas emissions, but we need to focus also on soil, on water. And we need to work more at farm level, also at the processing level."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): CAROLINE EMOND, Director General of International Dairy Federation
"The dairy sector in China has been growing, as we can see a lot of the processing companies have a very innovative vision for the future of the sector in China. And that is also an inspiration for other countries to see all the importance of innovation, and also the commitment. That's what we see in Inner Mongolia, the commitment of the government in taking a positive role of the dairy to the benefit of the population."

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): PETER MCBRIDE, Chairman of Board of Directors of Fonterra
"For the future, China is such an important part of the world dairy industry and I think all dairy industries across the globe should work together. We know that dairy produces some of the base nutrition in the world. And if we can do so in a low carbon way, it's a very exciting opportunity for China, for New Zealand, and for other countries as well."
