This is the heartwarming moment a kind local helped a struggling backpacker with a free ride.

Thai driver Thong was travelling along a road in Chonburi province, Thailand when he saw the tourist trying to hitchhike on September 8.

He pulled over to talk to the male traveller, who said he needed to go to Jomtien Beach in Pattaya City to meet a friend.

Thong graciously offered to give the Frenchman a free ride and chatted with him during the trip.

He said: 'I learned that the guy's name was Coco, and that he had come from France. He said he was travelling the world while trying to spend as little money as possible.'

After several minutes of chatting with the holidaymaker, Thong finally chauffeured Coco to his destination, with the backpacker thanking the Good Samaritan for his kindness.
