Spectators injured and nearly flushed away amid surging tides in China
Spectators got injured and nearly flushed away amid surging tides in Zhejiang province southern China.
In the video filmed yesterday on October 1 in a scenic spot in Jiaxing, the Qiantang River tide rushed into the seawall on the east side of the Zhanao Tower in the scenic spot, and rushed down the guardrail. Spectators were knocked down by the surging tide, slightly injured and were hospitalised for treatment.
According to the tourist Ms. Guo, the tide was too large and knocked down the guardrail. The area behind the guardrail was supposed to be a safe area so there was no other protection before the incident. After the guardrail was broken down by the tide, the staff nearby immediately cleared the scene and carried out evacuation.
Ms. Guo also said that her family has some minor injury by the debris of the guardrail, suffered some skin trauma. After the incident, the scenic staff also returned the ticket for Ms. Guo and her family.
Every year on the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month, the tidal surge of the Qiantang River reaches its largest, and the tidal head can reach several meters. Visitors flock from all over the world to see the wonders of the Qianjiang tide.
According to the staff of the scenic spot, 25,000 tourists were expected to visit on Monday. Both October 1st and 2nd are supposed to be the peak time to watch the tide.
