SOUNDBITE 1 (English): HERMANTO DWIATMOKO, Chairman of the Indonesian Railway Society, former director general for railways at Indonesia's Transportation Ministry
"The benefit of this project is of course to promote economic growth in Jakarta and Bandung. We can see that people travel from Bandung to Jakarta very frequently. It means that they want to get faster transportation. I hope that people from Jakarta can use this train because they are more efficient."
As the first high-speed railway in Southeast Asia, the 142.3 km railway cuts the journey between Jakarta and Bandung from over three hours to 40 minutes.
It's a flagship project that synergizes the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative and Indonesia's vision of the Global Maritime Fulcrum.
SOUNDBITE 2 (English): HERMANTO DWIATMOKO, Chairman of the Indonesian Railway Society, former director general for railways at Indonesia's Transportation Ministry
"Cooperation between the companies from China and also companies from Indonesia, I think they like the cooperation very much. They cooperated on some of the technologies, for instance, signaling. For us as the railway men, we see that this is very important to get the transfer of technology, so we can improve our capability."
