Family lives with huge termite hill inside their house
A family in the Philippines lives with a huge termite hill inside their house - which they believe brings them good luck.
The mound of fecal matter, mud, and termite saliva has built up in their kitchen due to an invasion by Subterranean Termites over the last decade.
Footage shows Edrey Espartero sitting next to the termite hill at the family home in Murcia, Negros Occidental, on September 16.
Despite the unusual situation, the superstitious family matriarch, Milagros Espartero, believes that the termite hill brings fortune and luck.
Speaking in the video, Edrey says: ‘The anthill almost reaches into our roof here. It has become this big because we just leave it alone and let them live with us in the house peacefully.
‘We believe that they bring us luck so my advice is if you see one near your house, let them stay there like nature spirits or ‘nuno sa punso' as we call them.'
Termite hills are formed by a type of termite known as mound-building termites. These termites live in large colonies and work together to build and maintain their mounds.
