This is the skin-crawling moment a resident discovered thousands of winged termites outside her home.

Footage captured by Poe No Phyu shows the swarm of insects covering the walkway in her yard in Lashio, Myanmar.

The homeowner can be seen gently picking up some of the alates to take a closer look before dropping it back down on May 24.

The swarm of winged termites is part of the insects' natural reproductive cycle. During this period, usually triggered by warm and humid weather, these termites take flight to mate and establish new colonies.

While they can be a nuisance when they gather in large numbers, this swarming behaviour is crucial for the survival and expansion of termite populations.
