Heroic residents saved a motorcycle rider who was swept away by floods swamping a road following heavy rain in northern Thailand.

Rescue teams were patrolling waterlogged streets in Phetchabun province following severe monsoon downpours when they found the driver struggling amid the fast-flowing currents on October 10.

The crew did not hesitate to jump into the knee-high torrents to help the man retrieve his motorcycle. They then loaded the two-wheeler onto the rescue truck and transported the man to safety.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.

Bangkok and large parts of the north and northeast of the country have been swamped with flash floods from tropical thunderstorms.
