A Tesla Model Y caught fire in a carpark in Malaysia on October 16.

The electric vehicle had been parked near the Skypod Residences in Puchong, Selangor when it burst into flames while its owner was buying food.

The blaze reportedly started at the front part of the EV before engulfing the rest of the car.

Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar, assistant director of operations of the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, said firefighters received a report at around 8:32 pm.

In a statement, the officer said: 'Upon arriving, the Fire Department found that the incident involved a Tesla that was 70 per cent burnt and no one was injured.

'The fire was completely extinguished by the Fire Department and the case has been handed over to the forensic department for further action.

'It is understood that the owner of the vehicle parked it there to get some food.'

Officials said the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.

On October 6, a truckload of Tesla Model Ys was engulfed in flames when a fire allegedly broke out on one of the six Teslas being transported in Istanbul, Turkey.

While on May 6, a father named Bishal Malla in California driving the same vehicle model pulled over when he felt his car shaking, only to find it burning on the highway.
