An American tourist was found dead in a river in Bangkok, Thailand, on Monday.

Marty Lynn Davis, 62, from Arkansas, was discovered by pier worker Noppadon Charnnarongkun, 34, floating face down in the Chao Phraya River on the edge of neighbouring Samut Prakan province on November 6.

Police officers from the Phra Padaeng district arrived at the scene to recover the body. They said Marty had been wearing a black shirt, black pants, and black shoes. They also found in his pockets a bottle of fungal nail medicine, a black rubber band, a watch, and a passport.

Police Captain Witthaya Namthong said: 'There appeared to be no signs of assault as the man did not have any injuries. We will be investigating if there have been any missing persons reports or boating accidents in the area.

'It is possible he entered the water further along the river and he was carried downstream away from Bangkok. It could have been an accident or deliberate.'

Marty's remains have been collected and transported to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for a post-mortem examination.

Authorities said they will report his death to the embassy so his relatives can be informed.
