A city in northern China turned into a real-life Winterfell from "Game of Thrones" amid a red alert snowstorm.

The video was filmed in Harbin City in Heilongjiang Province on November 6.

The curtain of snow forced a citywide shutdown of educational institutions across the central six districts, as kindergarten, elementary, and middle schools, along with extracurricular training centres, announced a one-day hiatus.

The blizzard also wreaked havoc on travel plans, leading to the pre-emptive cancellation of 39 flights, leaving would-be travellers grounded.

The National Meteorological Centre said that the snowfall is likely to “break through historical records” for the same period.
