Driver stranded in snowstorm cooks noodles on Chinese highway to survive 7-hour traffic jam
A driver stranded in a snowstorm cooked instant noodles on a highway to survive a 7-hour traffic jam in southern China.
The video was filmed in the city of Huaihua in Hunan Province on January 22.
Mr. Zhao, a man journeying back to his hometown in Guizhou Province for the Chinese New Year celebrations, turned a snowbound highway in Hunan's Huaihua section of the Changzhi Expressway into a makeshift kitchen.
Stranded in a severe snowstorm that transformed the expressway into an impassable white blanket, the traveller and countless others found themselves caught in a traffic nightmare that lasted more than seven gruelling hours.
The journey, which commenced from Hangzhou City on January 21st, initially faced minor snowfall upon reaching Changsha City. However, as Mr. Zhao recounted, the situation drastically worsened. By 2:00 a.m. on January 22nd, the snow had intensified, leaving vehicles immobilised and drivers stranded on the expressway.
With the biting cold and hunger setting in, Mr. Zhao resorted to an extraordinary measure. Fortuitously equipped with a portable gas stove and instant noodles in his car, he decided to cook the noodles right on the highway.
The traffic remained stagnant until around 9:30 a.m., when the combined efforts of the traffic police and salt dispersal finally made the highway navigable again.
