A monitor lizard sparked panic when it ran through a real estate company office.

The 4ft-long reptile was hiding in the corner of the property when it was spotted by a postal worker, Bang Roon, who delivered a parcel in Trang, Thailand on November 22.

Footage shows the lizard rampaging acrosss the marble floors when the man swung open the door to take the box inside.

The employees fled from the reptile and Bang Roon helped secure the lizard until the rescuers arrived to take it.

Employee Mew Sawarat said: ‘We were grateful for Bang Roon because he helped us with handling the monitor lizard. We were all afraid and didn't know what to do.'

Asian water monitor lizards normally live in canals, swamps, sewers and ponds in cities in Thailand. They feed on fish, snakes, frogs and scraps of food left by humans.

The reptiles are aggressive when threatened and have a mildly venomous bite which sometimes carries harmful bacteria. The Godzilla-like reptiles are also a protected species in the country so their population thrives.
