The restoration of the Saltdean Lido, East Sussex, is almost complete after the lights on the building were switched on for the first time since World War Two.

The open-air swimming pool was built between 1937 and 1938 and became derelict after being used a water tank by the National Fire Service during World War Two.

On December 18, 2023, the neon light sign was switched on for the first time since 1942.

The once crumbling Saltdean Lido Saltdean Lido, built in 1937-8 has finally been restored having been saved by locals (who collectively set up the Saltdean Lido Community Interest Company), from being bulldozed for flats in 2013. Funded by the National Lottery through the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Brighton and Hove City Council, Historic England and years of community fundraising the Art Deco masterpiece has been proclaimed, by the 20th Century Society to be: "Probably the most architecturally significant open-air pool in the country".
