Sudden drop in temperature causes floor to burst in southern China homes
A sudden large drop in temperatures caused floors to buckle and break homes in southern China.
Video showed that, due to the sudden drop in temperature, one resident in Guangzhou witnessing the floor of their home floor buckling and cracking.
It’s reported that with the influence of a southward-moving cold front, Guangzhou experiences a severe cold snap. On December 24th, Guangzhou recorded its lowest temperature of 3.2°C, breaking the record for the lowest temperature in the second half of the year.
The homeowner, after posting the video of the floor buckling online, received feedback from many Guangdong residents reporting similar issues. According to a professional specializing in repairing hollow tiles, he has been overwhelmed with calls in recent days, all reporting issues of tiles bulging.
The abrupt winter temperature drop, coupled with indoor heating from air conditioners or heaters, causes thermal expansion and contraction in tiles. This phenomenon leads to adjacent tiles being compressed by the walls, resulting in warping and even cracking. In some cases, improper cement mixing during tile installation can also contribute to tile buckling during winter.
