A seal bobs about in a sewage discharge next to the Towan Head pumping station storm drain outlet. A Met Office Yellow weather warning of heavy and persistent rain for 24 hours is predicted to end late on the 5th of January 2024. The warning covers Devon and Cornwall. The public is alerted to such events by the South West Water Ltd automated discharge sensors. In addition, The Surfers Against Sewage environmental charity has an app, Save Our Seas, which highlights and alerts users to such events. The Red crosses on the app image identify active discharges. The water companies are acting legally but have vowed to eliminate sea and river discharges over the coming years. The cost of remedial measures is enormous.
