Police officers saved a couple stranded on a car roof in a pond after the woman mistakenly hit the accelerator in eastern China.

The video was filmed in the city of Huangshan in Anhui Province on January 21.

A couple's leisurely fishing trip took a terrifying turn. The wife, mistaking the accelerator for the brake, accidentally drove their car into a pond. The vehicle, initially floating, slowly sank to the bottom, leaving the couple in a perilous situation.

Miraculously, the quick-thinking pair managed to open the car doors and clamber onto the roof, effectively saving their lives.

Onlookers were astounded as the couple stood atop their submerged car, seemingly defying physics like martial arts masters walking on water, leaving the responding officers completely baffled.

The police deployed a kayak to successfully rescue the couple and brought them to safety.

Thankfully, they emerged from this harrowing experience unscathed.
