Police tightened security in bars and hotels on the eve of Valentine's Day in Thailand.

Police Major General Anuwat Suwannapoom, commander of the Khon Kaen Provincial Police Station, visited entertainment venues, motels, and restaurants in Khon Kaen province on February 13.

Officers conducted license inspections, random drug searches, and verification of staff and customer IDs to ensure establishments were operating lawfully.

Police Major General Anuwat said: 'Hotel and bar owners contribute to the province's economy and must adhere to rules and regulations.

'This includes obtaining operating licenses properly, selling food and beverages within regulated periods, preventing individuals under 20 years old from visiting, and preventing drugs from entering the premises.

'Every establishment must be stringent in checking visitors' ID cards and searching their bags for weapons or drugs.

'Restaurant and entertainment operators are already aware of the law. Therefore, if they violate them or are found to have committed offenses during inspections, they will be subject to strict and immediate legal action.'

He added that cops have been dispatched to 26 districts in Khon Kaen to keep peace and order on February 14.
