A stray cat impaled on a fence spike was rescued and adopted by kind locals in Thailand.

The male black moggie was walking on roofs when it slipped and fell on a wall spike at Thepa Niwet village in Samut Prakan province on January 22.

Residents found the stray after hearing it crying through the night. Its right leg had been pierced by the sharp metal object, which luckily missed its vital organs.

Animal rescuers arrived at the scene and carefully removed the feline while cradling its head in a towel to keep it from biting them. They rushed it to a veterinarian to have its wound treated, with the house owner footing the 1,000 THB (28 USD) medical bill.

The unnamed resident said: 'A neighbor shouted that a cat had fallen from my roof and had its leg impaled. So I walked out to look and found that there was a stray cat yowling in pain. I called the Ruamkatanyu Foundation officers to come help the cat.

'It was a stray cat and I don't know if anyone was taking care of it. My neighbours and I own dogs, not cats.'

Rescuers said the moggie has been adopted by an animal lover after it was released from the vet.
