A stray cat was rescued after being impaled by sharp iron gate spikes while chasing a mouse.

The grey climbed and crossed the awning to catch a rodent that escaped into the two-storey house's kitchen in Tak province, Thailand on May 29.

But the creature missed its jump and slipped down the ledge before it plunged down the fence that stabbed its hip.

Footage shows the metal bar piercing through the grey feline's backside and hind leg. A team of animal rescuers rushed to the scene to help the animal and cut the metal bar off using a disc grinder.

Resident Peach Bungnan said: ‘We always see this cat around. It lived in our neighbourhood until we heard it crying one morning.'

The rescuers carried the cat to the ground where they tried to calm it as it cried. It was then rushed to the vet where medics removed the bar successfully.

After the operation, the feline stayed at the clinic until it recovered.

Peach added: ‘I was relieved it did not die. There was no blood at all when it was stabbed.'
