This is the heartwarming moment an animal rescue team saved a stray cat that was skewered on a metal spike in Thailand.

The specialists rushed to the university in Chonburi province, where they found the calico cat impaled through her left hind leg on May 23.

Footage shows the team sawing through the iron railings with cutting equipment to free the injured moggie.

A janitor working at the school said: 'I was cleaning the classrooms when I heard the cat screaming in pain. I ran over to see what had happened, and found it stuck on the fence with the spike through its leg. I couldn't save it by myself so I called the rescue team for help.'

The worker believed the cat had slipped while trying to scale the mesh wire fence.

The calico was taken to a veterinarian for further treatment.
