STORYLINE:

The executives of GSMA, an international mobile operator association, said that they are amazed by the cutting-edge technologies showcased by Chinese companies at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona.

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): MATS GRANRYD, Director-General of GSMA
"I met many of them (Chinese companies), and they are absolutely first-class. They're really leading in their own fields. If you take China, which is together with the U.S. leading 5G deployment, we all know how important it is to have a very solid foundation, which 5G brings. So on top of that, China and U.S. will bring a lot of new cool companies that will foster the next generation of digital activities. And it's going to be together with AI, and I know how much effort, money, talent that China is pouring into new technology, into AI, into connectivity. That's going to really bear fruit in the future.

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): LARA DEWAR, Chief Marketing Officer for GSMA
"I think there's a ton of innovation that's coming out of China, so it's really important that they're here. Having China represented is very important, which is why from an MWC series perspective, the second edition of MWC (in 2024) happens this June in Shanghai."

The GSMA executives also called for more international cooperation, which is key to technological progress, in the future to benefit more people worldwide.

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): MATS GRANRYD, Director-General of GSMA
"Leaving no one behind is really important because now when we're moving into an AI world, the risk is that the bifurcation, the divide will become even greater. The ones who understand and use AI versus the ones who don't understand and don't use AI, that will be horrible. We don't want to go there. We want to have a world that is inclusive to where everyone has the same technological opportunities."
