A hit-and-run collision left an adult female pedestrian dead on a street in the Leimert Park neighborhood of South Los Angeles late Thursday night.

Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department's Southwest Division were on patrol when they heard a nearby traffic collision around 11 p.m., and began to search the immediate area.

"When they came to the area of Crenshaw and Homeland Drive, they observed a female adult in the roadway," said Sgt. Kevin Ahlemeir with LAPD's South Traffic Division at the scene. Paramedics were called to the scene, and upon arrival, pronounced the woman deceased.

Ahlemeir said that they are currently investigating this incident as a hit-and-run with possibly one or more vehicles involved.

LAPD officers were canvassing the area looking for cameras and witnesses to find out exactly what happened.

There is no suspect vehicle or driver description yet, said Ahlemeir. However, the LAPD is still actively investigating the incident.
