Family of five killed when LPG cylinders explode in home in India
A family of five was killed when two LPG cylinders exploded in a home in India on Tuesday night.
The mother, father, and three children were inside the property when an electrical short circuit reportedly started a fire.
The two gas cylinders exploded in quick succession shortly after, causing a blast that demolished the house's walls and damaged neighbouring buildings in the town of Kakori in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, at around 10:30 pm local time.
Footage taken from a home around 100 metres shows the intensity of the blast and the fire, which the crew managed to bring under control.
Officers identified the deceased as the dad Musheer, 50, his wife Husna Bano, 45, and their children Raiya, seven, Huma, four, and Hina, two, all of whom were pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Nine other residents who were injured in the explosion are currently being treated at Lucknow's Trauma Centre.
Mangesh Kuma, the chief fire officer in Lucknow, said he was among the first officers who reached the incident.
He said: 'After arriving at the site, we encountered a scene of utter devastation, with flames engulfing the surroundings.
"Amid challenges, our teams worked tirelessly to contain the fire and mitigate further damage.'
The inferno was successfully doused by the local fire department and police with the help of locals.
Investigations are still being conducted into the blast.
